LOS BANOS, LAGUNA. In a dramatic effort to show unity amid the rumbling noises of mis-understanding, discord and apathy, the Upsilon Sigma Phi Los Banos Alumni Association, Inc (USPLBAA) during its First General Membership Meeting (GMM) for 2006 last June 10 unanimously passed a surprise resolution to bid for the hosting of Upsilon Congress XI.
During the Plenary Session of the GMM held at the UPCO Social Hall in UP Los Banos, Fellow Gee Esguerra ’68 rose to deliver a message that he hoped would solidify the bond between all alumni chapters and create a climate of mutual cooperation between the two resident chapters and the different alumni chapters. After which, he pitched the idea of hosting the Upsilon Congress XI. To the unanimous applause and positive reception of the brods present, the motion was seconded and eventually unanimously passed.
It can be recalled that Los Banos last hosted the Upsilon Congress V in 1995. A decade hence, USPLBAA is making a strong bid to make sure Los Banos is at the core of this year’s biennial congress of Upsilon Sigma Phi.
In his capacity as President of the Association, Fellow Glenn Ollero ’76 has taken the difficult task of chairing the Organizing Committee to ensure the success of the holding of the biennial event. Brod Ollero was instrumental to the successful back to back holding of USP Loyalty Day Celebrations in 2004 and 2005.
To be presented to the regular board meeting of the Upsilon Sigma Phi Alumni Association (USPAA) in July, the USPLBAA is hopeful that the bid will be accepted.
