Luis Rey I. Velasco ‘74 is new UPLB chancellor

The UP Board of Regents, at its 1200th meeting on September 22, appointed Dr. Luis Rey I. Velasco ‘74 as chancellor of UP Los Banos (UPLB). An Associate Professor of Entomology and former dean of the College of Agriculture, Dr. Velasco’s professional career spans more than two-and-a-half decades of college teaching, conducting research and extension, and rendering technical services to various government agencies mostly in the agricultural sector. A holder of BS in Agriculture and MS in Entomology degrees from UP Los Baños, he also completed his PhD degree in Entomology from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, under the University of Queensland Research fellowship.

The Upsilon Sigma Phi, founded in 1918, is the oldest fraternity in Asia. Based in the University of the Philippines, it has had an unbroken and singular association with the premier state university. There are no chapters outside of UP Diliman and UP Los Banos.
