Upsilon sponsors lecture on President Emilio Aguinaldo

As part of its efforts to highlight the achievements and contributions of the country’s leaders to national development, the Upsilon Sigma Phi of the University of the Philippines, Los Baños (UPLB) is sponsoring the UPLB Presidential Lecture Series. This project is was organized by the Upsilon as part of the celebrations of the centenary of the University of the Philippines. On September 1, 2008, the presidency of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo will be featured. The guest of honor and speaker will be the Hon. Cesar E. A. Virata, former prime minister of the Republic of the Philippines. This will be held DL Umali Hall, UP Los Baños, at 1:00 pm. The public is cordially invited.

This is the third lecture in the series. The inaugural lecture which was held on January 12, 2008 highlighted the presidency of Honorary Fellow Jose P. Laurel. Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno was the guest of honor and speaker. The second lecture was delivered by former Senator Ramon B. Magsaysay Jr. on June 30, 2008. He discussed the legacy and relevance of the presidency of his father, the late President Ramon Magsaysay.

Ivan Anthony S. Henares ‘98 selected as Philippines 21 Fellow for 2008

Ivan Anthony S. Henares ‘98 was selected as one of the ten fellows of the Philippines 21 Young Leaders Initiative for 2008. He is the second Upsilonian to be selected to take part in this prestigious program after former Cavite Representative Gilbert Cesar C. Remulla ‘89 in 2006. Henares will fly to Tokyo, Japan in November to participate in the Asia 21 Young Leaders Forum, a three-day event that will bring together 200 young leaders from Asia and the United States. The forum will discuss issues such as global economics, security, regional relations, and social issues. Click here for more information on Philippines 21 and Asia 21.

Henares was selected earlier this year by the Manila Jaycees as one of the “Sixty Youth Leaders” for awarding later this year. He was also part of the top thirty which took part in the first batch of the Cultural Citizens Program of the U.S. State Department and Northern Illinois University. Congratulations brod!
